I believe some folks are aware of the new Silent Hill movie, called Revelations, based on the Third game. Will be done in 3D so at least some fun is assured and since I find the Third one scariest and the most disturbing game in sense of really otherworldly horror, I'm a bit fancy about it. They even plan to bring back the original cast, so that's another good point. And the actress they took for protagonist is really cute, though doesn't resemble Heather very much. I don't have high hopes, but I really look forwards to see how this movie will turn out.

Could be good. I guess the actress does look a fair bit like Radha Mitchell so I can see what they were thinking with the casting. I'll be interested to see how they explain away the ending of the first one.

The director said he's going to try and tie it into the game as well.
I can see him totally retconning it so that the cult actually cast out Dahlia because she was using Alessa as a vessel to summon some otherworldly demon or something. And the reason they burned Alessa was to prevent this demon from coming into fruition. It was this demon giving her these psychic powers resulting in her being called a witch and such.
Would make an interesting twist in the story while tying it in with the games better.

Ok, it's a trailer time! Akira Yamaoka himself expressed positive feedback on this work, since he was collaborating again, so at least I believe, this movie shouldn't be any worse the the first one.

Hmm, I'm skeptical at this point. I'll still go and see it though.

I do hold some healthy skepticism as well, but I'm waiting eagerly for this one nevertheless. Director and scriptwriter Michael J. Bassett kind of mentioned that he will consider opinion of the fans of Silent Hill franchise about various things in the movie. Here is his blog.

Not sure about this. The trailer has the air of a straight to DVD style film. I wait to be proved wrong.

I'll reserve judgement 'til I actually see it, but it's interesting that the viewer ratings I've seen for this have been quite positive but the reviews scathing almost without exception. I wonder if they've concentrated more on trying to curry favour with hardcore fans with in-references than making a film that's actually watchable.

Did anyone see this film? After reading not one good word about it, I thought I'd be best off staying away. What's the verdict?

Between playing Ireland and Damnation Festival with Wodensthrone and then moving house again straight after, I never went to see it. I have it on good authority that it was dismal, though, and haven't felt any particular hurry to get round to it.

Sounds about right. The trailer looked too special-effecty though even they looked cheap and tacky.

Well, I watched it recently. I tried to do it without any prejudice and to be honest, it wasn't that terribly bad as most reviews claimed it to be. Of course, it is nowhere near the first one in depth and atmosphere, but it I was able to see some coherence there, even though some were saying that one is not be found there (and they might be right). There were some cheesy moments but they were brief enough and did not annoy me too much. So, yes, it is a "little" a bit underdeveloped, but I've seen worse. Disappointment though, and big one.
