Just wanted to add a couple of things. Shozin Fukui's Pinocchio 964 and Rubber's lover may be of interest, although they are somewhat incoherent. Pinocchio came out about the same time as tetsuo (a couple of years later i think) and they got linked to the same genre. I also wanted to mention something that MAY be of interest to people here as it deals with urban decay. There is a really really good chinese documentary by Bang Wing called 'West of the Tracks', broken into 3 parts called Rust, Remnants, and Rails, with Rust probably being the most relevant to this group. The review here: twitchfilm.net/reviews/2010/02/iffr-2010-extra-wang-bings-west-of-the-tracks-tie-xi-qu-dvd-review.php is better than anything i could write. It is extremely long (9 hours total) and moves very slowly, but i think it is a very beautiful film and worth the time. DVDs may be near impossible to come by, but someone put it on youtube in 10 minute pieces. The first part is www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO4W3KfXrGk and subsequent parts can be found by searching for 'TXQ 1 (X/23)' or following the related links. Remnants is 'TXQ 2 (X/17)', and Rails is 'TXQ 3 (X/13)'. If no one is interested, please excuse the interruption and i will go back to my own explorations.

i hope you both like it. I know it isnt the normal type of treatment here, but at the least the imagery may hold some appeal.
Thanks for the welcome. I am glad to have been admitted. I am wandering the corridors aimlessly, peeking in random rooms, and trying to avoid sharp, rusty objects and the unknowns that keep jumping out from the shadows. I seem to be en(un)joying myself at the moment.

I am surprised no one did already mentioned Jan Svankmajer's "Alice" made in 1988... It was certainly a reference for the Silent Team when they designed the scene in the elevator with Valtiel in Silent Hill 3. As for me, it is a really really good surreal movie that mix strange stop motion animation with real takes. I definitely think it is the best adaptation of Lewis Caroll's novel. If listening to The Axis you get the feeling to fall and fall to never see the surface again you should watch it, it is pretty difficult to get but you can still download it if you seek a bit. Oh, and I had the opportunity to watch TETSUO 3: THE BULLET MAN in the Cannes Film Festival, it was pretty hard to get into the screening room for it was reserved for buyers but I did it ! It was pretty good, maybe not as much as the first one, but more aggressive for sure.

Speaking of stop motion films "Street of Crocodiles" by The Brothers Quay is very well done, as are all of their works. Each one that I have seen carries a sense of decay and isolation which is both inspiring and very haunting.

I' ve just watched "Street of Cocodiles", it's wonderful and amazing, both this film and Alice are. I'll try to learn more about those brothers. It was a good idea to post it here, thank you.

I can recommend another very weird and mind bending movie in this field. It is called Mécanix. This one appeared to me so disturbingly otherworldly that I still hardly can put any comment but I really heavily adore it. I don't know if torrent of this movie is still active. But you can try it here. And here is little trailer.

This is not recommendation whatsoever, but I wanted to share with others my little very weird experience. Few months ago I came by some strange movie. It's called Dark Floors. Kind one of those hospital horrors. And this one has relatively huge Silent Hill influence aesthetically wise, which is really well done, but I was not expecting someone to such a ridiculous thing like putting fucking Lordi as main villains. I wonder what were they thinking I have nothing against Lordi, they are good at what they do, this is just not my cup of tea, but how someone came to decision to put them in such environment. Regardless how brave this idea might appear, in my humble opinion it is completely ridiculous. Avoid, if you don't want to be keep repeating wtf? involuntarilly. Otherwise, a nice Silent Hillish hospital, probably a single redeeming point here.

And now I recalled another great movie that resembles Silent Hill quite in some visual ways. It is Gwai Wik or Re-Cycle by Chinese brothers-directors Pangs. It is about some young female writer, who became trapped in her inner world like Alice, but extremely contaminated by various forms of wrongness and rust. There some fantasy elements, but they do combine well with the suspense, so it is kind of colourful horror movie. The ending is really cool, but I won't spoil it here. This one is truly recommended to watch.

Some fresh recommendations is needed here as well. Firstly, I highly recommend to watch Grave Encounter. This is one of those recent "documentary" type movies, so I hope, no one has developed any sort of hate for this tendency. While watching it, I had "Deleted Scenes..." sounding in my head, because all the visual setup and concept of both seem to match almost perfectly except for few nuances. I won't reveal much of it, but if you are into Session 9, I quite strongly suggest you to give a go for Grave Encounters. Another excellent work I saw recently, is not a horror movie whatsoever. It's very original approach to apocalyptic idea. This one is called Perfect Sense. What happens to the world when every humans gradually loose all their vital senses...

One you all might be interested in is a Silent Hill fan film called Silent Hill: No Escape. It's all in CG with no voice acting, and the dialogue is somewhat awkward at times, but overall I think it does a great job capturing the Silent Hill atmosphere. It's in six parts (with the last two further subdivided into more manageable sections), which can be found on YouTube - Here is the first part, and you should be able to find the rest from there. You can also download them and read some supplementary information on the series at its website here. The website also has a link to a torrent for files that can be burned to a DVD, but it seems to be long dead...

It's been a while here since last full length recommendation. My recent viewings: Citadel (2012)Agoraphobic dream-state nightmare of one young man. This movie has a very vivid urban desolation vibe so it goes perfectly here. Noroi (2005). This is one of those "documentary" type movies. Pretty good if you are into Eastern horror. D@bbe (2006). Turkish answer to Japanese Kairo. They seem to have an original approach to similar concept. Acting is not brilliant, but its twitches just right.
