Recently I saw another two fresh Japanese movies. KAIRO and KANSEN. Kairo or the Pulse as they call is stunnigly beautiful and melancholic. A very sullen movie like a neverending rainy day. It has quite original scenario plot but I won't spoil it here for those who haven't seen it More like psychological drama with paranormal activities all over than a horror. Kansen or the Infection in contrast to Kairo is a lot more disturbing and claustrophobic. Events take place in somewhat neglected hospital. Few doctors run into serious trouble during night shift. And in the end it appears far more twisted and sick than one could originally expect. All I can say is that for those who liked Session 9 this will appeal as well. Recommended.

[Rec] (2007)
From spanish directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza comes utterly thrilling terror and overbearing feeling of panic. Couple of tv reporters together with few firefighter and policemen are being quarantined within living building along with it's inhabitants because of unknown infection. Terrifying events follow shortly after... This movie is produced in the manner of TV report and looks stunningly realistic. It's like hybrid of Blair Witch and 28 Days Later but the effect of both is amplified to the maximum.

That sounds okay. That new 'The Orphanage' film might be decent as well. My local cinema are being crap though and still don't have it yet.

Watch this please. I'm pretty sure you will like it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXOePH_2_E8 One of my friends got this one. He said it's kind of KAIRO clone but a lot more scary so it means worth to see.

Another addition is The Audition Ôdishon (1999) by Takashi Miike. This particularly disturbing masterpiece is a must see for every TAoP fan (if there any who hasn't). It took a little courage for me to revisit this movie. Damn glad i did.

As i was getting more info about Forbidden Siren game (from creators of Silent Hill) i accidentally found about movie Sairen (2006) which is very uncommonly related to the game. It is not typical adaption. Rather interpretation borrowing some fundamental elements of the game plus adding psychological aspect but leaving storyline behind. If you adore the scream of the siren then this movie is a mandatory in my humble opinion. Quite hard to get but worth to see.

I assume most of the folks should be familiar with Lars Von Trier and how f***ed some of his movies are. They mostly have nothing to do with horror but tend to be cruelly compelling in psychological aspect. However one of his works is quite related to the general topic here. Being a fan of Twin Peaks series since my teens i always wandered is there anything similar to it with general atmosphere and weirdness. And so recently i was very lucky to find about Riget The plot is set in a large hospital complex (called The Kingdom) in Denmark where supernatural phenomena began to occur. And as further it get's the more loose and hooky events become. It may appear seriously disturbing but it's also tastefully funny. There are two seasons and for both of them i heartily recommend to give a watch if you haven't seen it. You won't regret.

I see that no one mentioned "Noroi" a japanese answer on "Blair With" style of filming. Although it is a bit too long and sometimes you may get bored but there areabsolutely bloodcurdling and unnerving scenes, you just have to see.

I haven't seen Steven King's version yet but i know that americans mostly fail with remakes. I guess they are doing it for their own market but here naturally comes old saying "why fix it if it's not broken?". Anyway perhaps i'll check it just to see how everything went downwards as you say.

Yesterday i got to watch newest film by Martin Scorsese called Shutter Island. Awesome and highly recommended work. Psychologically dense and very well twisted plot. I don't want to spoil anything but those who are into movies like The Machinist, Memento this is a sort of mandatory. It's psychological aspect is very compelling and left me really intrigued for it triggered my imagination how one should feel when you can't trust your own mind anymore and you are unable to question anything because nothing seems for what it is.

...t americans mostly fail with remakes... I'd be hard pressed to find a time we have succeeded with a remake. The selection of films around here is pretty poor, and i don't watch many as a result.

I think i found a movie that actually strongly resembles some scenes from Urfe. Shinya Tsukamoto a man who created Tetsuo made another great effort called Haze. It is short (about 50 minute), very dark, claustrophobic and has quite obscure story that is up to watcher to interpret. Man awakes in very tight concrete tunnel for seemingly no reason and is bleeding to death. There is unexplainable presence within the place and strange woman who fell into same trap. They both do not remember how and why they got there and decide to get out by any means possible... Truly Axisque movie in my opinion.

Typical, there are 2 reviews on Amazon, 1 gives it 5/5, the other gives it 1/5. It's ability to split opinion mirrors that of any album by The Axis. Therefore, it could bode well.
