Canadian noiser Sistrenatus is giving me good portion of un-joyment past few weeks. The latest (and already sold-out) album " Wrought Iron Railing" simply hits the spot. It is a very eclectic release in a sense that one can find death industrial, dark ambient, noise, power electronics and more things within the sounds down there. Little preview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6htV3xBY_54Yeah, it's really good. Very short, sharp and evil. Straight to the point. I'm getting unjoyment from that too....and nice packaging 'n' all!

Someone did mention Bohren & Der Club of Gore huh? This project must be inserted here as recommendation as this is really a must hear thing. Stuningly subtle top notch darkness. I was looking for something like this and instantly ordered "Black Earth" album. Great dark lounge only twice as slow as ordinary lounge jazz. Dirge perhaps...

Aye, brilliant album. I had "Constant Fear" on my myspace page for a good while, 'til it got ousted by "Host of the Seraphim" after I watched "The Mist".

I'm playing 'Black Earth' at work. I think I can just about get away with it in the retail environment. It put me off a bit when my nan said it was 'soothing' though!

I'm particularly wearing out the disks of Esoteric at the mo. The new double-album is superb! I wonder if any other nasty-but-great double albums may be released this year? Also, Darkspace III is hitting me with about as many spine-tingling atmospheres as Darkspace I did and it possibly may even overtake II with repeated listens in my estimations!

Nordvagr's 'Intersteller' is quite insane. Really deep droney space-ambient. Quite an evil atmosphere throughout and stunning packaging. Recorded almost entirely from field recordings of space noises captured by satellites. Frustratingly limited to 444 copies but worth tracking down.
On a completely different note, Keep of Kalessin's new album is pretty good- I prefer it to Armada at the moment.

"Interstellar" is really good even though I did only few spins. Nordvargr's creative mind mostly always offers nothing short of interesting. Have you checked his noise/black metal project Vargr? That one is truly a filthy thing. As for K.o.K. new album sounds very dull for me compared to "Armada". I miss that power which I felt on previous work. Perhaps only two songs have something reminiscent of Keep of Kalessin sound. "Kolossus" left me unmoved unfortunately. Talking about this year I'm pleased with new Cult of Luna album "The Eternal Kingdom". Their sludgy post-hardcore mixed with post-rock gives cool outcome. I was very impressed by newest Nachtmystium. I liked it a lot. Kind of emotional voyage. Sort of dark sort of weird. New Leviathan as well. Looking forward new Solstafir and Virus.

Are anyone actually into soundtracks? I suggest to check soundtrack of Quake the first done by N.I.N. Brooding darkbient mixed with industrial. Even if it's a game OST it stands well for listening not only while playing. Another one is OST for Event Horizon by Michael Kamen & Orbital. Not very scary or dark. Kind of eclectic but has a lot of punch and stays rhythmic mostly. Really interesting effort.

Getting back to metal I find french Reverence progressing towards interesting direction. Didn't find them interesting until heard their tracks on Dissociated Human Junction four way split album. Their latest Chambers of Divine Elaboration is really good effort. I can see that TAOP and Blut Aus Nord made some significant influence but Reverence sound a bit more metal perhaps and not so organic and abstract as mentioned bands. Although still remains really bleak. I hope they'll tour more around.

I'd like to suggest a rather unknown sludge/doom bands from my region called Thee Letting Forth of Fire. I find them to be pretty impressive, which mostly comes from the fact that they are forced to mingle with all the other deathcore/metalcore bands in our local scene. www.myspace.com/theelettingforthoffire

I'm sure most, if not all denizens of this ward know about 'Gnaw their Tongues' mainly because of the inevitable Axis comparisons they've generated. I personally find them to be like Sistrenatus comined with Raison d'etre or something like that. Anyway, they're quite nightmarish and the use of spoken word samples is really quite creepy. Mories has a fantastic agonised scream as well. I've got 'Reeked pained and shuddering' which is ace and 'An Epiphanic Vomiting of blood' which I'm getting in to more and more especially the excellent 'Sawn Asunder and left for the beasts'. This album also contains a contender for best song title ever in 'My Body Is Not A Vessel, Nor A Temple. It's A Repulsive Pile Of Sickness'. Quite into the new Lustmord- [Other] at the moment too. Sometimes one needs a few deep bassey rumbles.

Right now I'm getting through noisescapes of this project. Kind of interesting really but I don't find it to be similar to TAOP. What it really reminds me at times is Abruptum. And it also reminded me that it's been along time since I listened to Melek-Tha. I already mentioned but I'll do it once more. Try Deadwood. Harsh death industrial with black metal voice. Few months ago new album was released but I haven't heard it yet. Look for "8 19" and "Ramblack"
