You also might want to check out The Monolith Deathcult. They've earned the title as my favorite death metal band. Quite crushing and proves that they've withstood the peer pressure of other death metal bands to be "br00tal" and win the race for fastest double pedals and blast beats. They take the initiative to concentrate on more important things like atmosphere and aesthetics. www.myspace.com/themonolithdeathcult

Bohren & D.C.o.G's new album Dolores caught me by surprise. Didn't know about new album which is freshly out until yesterday. While Geisterfaust took some listens to really get into because of it very sparse music, Dolores happens to be an instant love. Sounds more like shoegaze to me. A bit more uplifting (if I could define it as so) than Sunset Mission or Black Earth but still largely melancholic. Brilliant release I'd say. By the way I found some nice videos: Bohren & der Club of Gore - ProwlerBohren & der Club of Gore - Midnight Black Earth

Yeah, he is a sick fuck (in a "good" sense of these words). His pre-Gnaw Their Tongues project Ophiuchus is interesting effort as well.

Currently pummeling me into a gibbering wreck (as well as 'Urfe'):
Deathspell Omega- Chaining the Katechon- very good production, discordant mindfuck riffs as usual. A bit more stop-start which I have yet to make my mind up on as to whether it's a good thing. It is improving with repeated listens though.
Cities Last Broadcast- The Cancelled Earth- Ambient project from the Kammarheit guy on Cyclic Law. Very creepy still and very nice!

Blut aus nord members are starting new side-project called 777. It should be some nicely bleak mindfuck. Debut album will be out soon through debemur morti. Still no signs of Lighteater release.

Finally something new came out from mister Pär Boström (a man behind Kammarheit). Cities Last Broadcast The Canceled Earth is equally a dark wandering. I received my copy yesterday. The long waiting was fully worth it. All i can say is just GRAB IT!

The 2 free tracks I've heard from magazine CDs haven't massively impressed me.

The new Absu album is alright, but I much prefer their older stuff (The Sun Of Tiphareth in particular). Sounds too sterile and modern for their sound in my opinion.

I haven't noticed the name of Trist around here yet, so i feel like i shall mention it here. If you don't already know that band (the german one, not the czech one), then run, run as fast as you can to get Hin-Fort, the most amazing, breath-taking black ambient double album ever. It's quite not like TAoP, nor any of TAoP's related bands, so don't expect the kind of "messed up industrial black metal" ambient. The track (and album) Hin is... Well, just listen, i don't want to spoil you! The rest of their stuff is amazing too, but it's ALL ambient, including Fort, so, if you dislike music that is neverending and neverchanging, Trist may not be for you...
And, if you're also not too elitist, check out Dälek, an experimental/ambient... Hip hop band!

My other guilty listening pleasure as well as The Axis is <Code> whose Nouveau Gloaming album is still one of my favourites ever. They are putting a different track from their upcoming album 'Resplendant Grotesque' on www.myspace.com/codeblackmetal every week. The first one is rather tasty. They were going to have Simen Hestnaes on vocals, thank goodness Kvohst came back!!

I guess no one mentioned Stratvm Terror yet. I finally got a chance to check what is that side of Peter Andersson look like though he is only one of two persons in this project. Right now i'm digesting their latest release This is My Own Hell. Much like Raison D'etre at times, dementia induced voice is heard at some moments. Unnerving and dis-quite trip into tormented mind. This album perfectly fits the bill here for it's necrotic and disturbing character. And i think i'm going to look for more...

And, if you're also not too elitist, check out Dälek, an experimental/ambient... Hip hop band! I agree. Wonderful record. I haven't really gotten into the "fort" disc yet, even after all this time, but "hin" remains a masterpiece. It can especially be recommended to fans of Darkspace(vonmimus, if you haven't heard them, go check them out NOW). They have a lot in common; long, hypnotizing songs with blurry and entrancing production, spacious sound, and lots of space-related themes and feelings in general. Trist just released a new full-length, Willenskraft, on Cold Dimensions. It's not nearly as good as hin-fort in my opinion, but I could listen to the song Wandlung over and over for hours. Beautiful track. On topic, for those who haven't already heard it, I just wanted to recommend what is probably the greatest minimalist ambient album ever: Like A Slow River by Lull. He's a quite well-known veteran in the dark ambient scene, but the latest record surpasses almost everything I've ever heard within the genre. It's part of a label/project called Glacial Dimensions, which releases exclusively ambient/drone albums with arctic and glacial themes(too bad that Deep Frieze by SleepResearch_Facility wasn't released by them, that would've made the whole thing complete). Anyway, every self-respecting ambient fan needs to have heard this, it's as simple as that. Slow, cold and icy drones in the distance, like huge ice sheets slowly moving across the freezing oceans. Oh bliss...

What's 'Deep Freeze' like by SRF? Should I buy it. I have 'Nostromo' which is pretty good.
I'm listening to Konau- 'Speech from the shadows' at the moment. Reminiscent of R-A-A-N and Raison d'être (era 'The Empty Hollow Unfolds/In Sadness, Silence and Solitude in particular). Essential if you like these 2.
