I have 3 new-ish CDs of Dark Ambient and they're all very good indeed, it's quite rare for there not to be one that's not very good. They are: Rasalhague- Rage inside the window- Kind of like a more focused Atrium Carceri
Blood Box- Funeral in an Empty Room- One half of Yen Pox. I've struggled to like Yen Pox but found this CD very rewarding.
Terra Sancta- Disintegration- A bit like Moljebka Pvlse in terms of lengthy songs with droning ambiance maybe with a bit of Raison d'être thrown in

Wow, it's been deadly silent in here for a while! I assume most people in this forum knows the UFO called Darkspace, I pretty sure someone mentioned it before. Well, I had the chance to see them live at Hellfest 2012 and made a video with editing in it, a bit different than all these one shot video on youtube, more visual at least. So if you enjoy how Darkspace sounds like, if you are a fan like I am or if you want to discover something more or less related to The Axis of Perdition, maybe you should watch this: vimeo.com/46027207I hope you will like it. Cheers.

I think most of the frequent posters have found each other on Facebook now which has diminished the amount of discussion that's happening on here?
Never quite got into Darkspace myself, though they tick all the right boxes. Maybe I need to see them live before I can "get" them, as was the case (with very different vibes of course) with Wolves In The Throne Room.

Well, in that case, that's a shame since a forum is made for public debate. "We can't play if you don't play" said (will say?) Roy Batty.
For Darkspace live, you may be right as I enjoy their music even more after I saw them on stage. Sunn O))) at Hellfest was even more like that, it was I was part of a sound ritual, they can make your nose and knees vibrate! Although I get quite bored while listening to them on CD.
What can I say, for me Darkspace is a black metal band in all its romantic vein. If Richard Wagner had done minimalistic, repetitive black metal, it would sounds quite close (well, let's not exaggerate too much…). It is epic music, not in The Lord of the Ring's way, more like a Friedrich painting or a Giger landscape. They do not make any compromise playing live, guitars are plugged in DI in the mixer (gosh, what a guitar sound!), they don't have a drummer, they don't want a drummer. Everything in term of sound is like in the CDs, only BIGGER and wider in frequency range. Of course I totally understand it takes time to "get" them with their 10min of blasting for each song.

I have never listened to Darkspace before but have quickly dashed off an order for Dark Space III as a result of that clip. It seems - despite lacking that much sought after special seal of approval from The Axis - like something I would be totally into. Fingers crossed...
Nice job, TheHierophant!

Awesome work Hierophant! That's how their footage should look. Have you taped their full performance?

I wish I had filmed the all gig so bad. I've hardly had an occasion to see Black Metal bands lives unfortunately, I guess I was so impressed to have them in front of me that it put my brain on-off-on-off ==> "on tape"-"not on tape"-"on tape"… I feared to run out of battery, and I wanted to keep it for Anaal Nathrakh and Sunn O))) as well. Now I kind of regret that, anyway I posted it on youtube saying that if by any chance anybody had filmed the show, I'd be very pleased if "he" or "she" ("it"?…) accepts to give me the rushes so I can improve the editing. Wait and see. I could make a fan video clip for the Axis as well, maybe as a way to express what it inspires to me, in a very subjective way. It won't be easy, it will take a long time, but I could try… What would be the Axis' thoughts about it? I assure you I have good taste (in bad things of course), confused images, nothing narrative, the music says all. But you maybe think it all sounds like bunch of crap!

PS: What about the Axis' live show at the Cluny? Does someone own something on video?

Actually I do. I taped both Wodensthrone and TAOP back then. Due to the size of file, the transfer would be a bit problematic.

Yeah, it's always the same problem with digital… I think we may deviate a bit from the "recommendations" topic. Anyway, would you mind telling me how many files you have, what size it is and what kind (mov, avi, mp4, MTS…) ? It would be nice of you.

Firstly, apologies for lack of posting recently. I've been working quite hard and neglecting some things I probably shouldn't have (like this . I very much like Darkspace though they don't age all that well. Darkspace II was ace. 1 had a few good tracks and III had a few amazing tracks (eg. the first and last) and the rest is fine, but it's a bit too long. However, if you like them, try to track down Vulvark, a one-man project from Germany. Their self-titled album was released in only 250 copies, I have number 1 (goodness knows how!) and I think it's great.

By all means make a clip if you'd like Hierophant, it would be great to have something like that available. If you decide to and you wanted to quiz us about anything, feel free to find us on Facebook; as I'm sure you've noticed, we don't always respond in a timely fashion on the board!

Tyranor's film of The Axis (and indeed Wodensthrone) at the Cluny is very good quality! It was great to be there, too. A gig I really unjoyed.

Well, seeing it now, I could say that people with all those smart phones are able to do a lot more hi-res stuff haha. Though, the quality, of that material is still decent. The Cluny event was legendary, as the whole CCFC was awesome. By the way Darkcrawl, congratulations for finally coming home:)

As for recommendations, I have few. Firstly it's The Amenta "N0n". Occasus was ok, but this one is simply outstanding in my opinion. Absolutely awesome (real) industrial to the core metal with prominent death and black metal bits, also very atmospheric and powerful. It was one of those rare cases of instant buy after the first listen. From now on, this band is under my high surveillance. Pensées Nocturnes Grotesque. Another surprise I discovered last year. Sort of demented avant-garde black metal project from France. The guy unconventionally fuses different genres like classical, blues rock, with really intense french flavored BM. The result is both organic and eclectic and has some twisted cabaret feeling. A sort of a dark fairytale. Infestus E x I s t from Germany. Very powerful and moody black metal. And has samples from Event Horizon! Isn't that enough to grab it at once? I was never keen on German black metal, but this one is brilliant. I find it very abysmal. I doubt it if I would discover this one man band if not the compilation where Haeiresis track was included as well.
