Thanks Brooke lad Well Line6 amp straight line-in to my Creative Sound Blaster Live card. Cubase software is what I am used to. Distortion is not really natural. I modified it with Multiband Compressor. As for drums those are midi patterns imported into Drumsite software and exported with real drum sample as wave. Guitars work always as duo and placed in different channels. Then tried to mirror them by doubling tracks but in different channels leaving 20 mili-seconds interval delay to give more surround feeling. But they still sound unnatural for me. Planing to use Guitar Rig amp simulator and see what will happen. There is still where to work on production as one can notice Anything more?

up its all sounding great, how getting on with Guitar rig? We are using it for the new axis album, if you like I can send you some of our guitar sounds to try out. I would also recomend EZDrummer or DFHSuperior from toontrack for you drums. Any sign of a vocalist yet ? Brooke

Thanks again Brook. Yep I tried Guitar rig already. It cool thing but unfortunatelly it eats too much of my resources so I'll have to expand my pc's virtual memory greatly. Perhaps next week I'll deal with that. As for vocalist most likely I'll take that duty. And if you don't mind I would like to know if it is possible how you modified vocals on "Ichneumon". It is not that I want to apply the exact technique but at least something similar. Xenolith's vocals is another good point of reference. And yes of course I would like to try those sounds. No questions about that As for EZDrummer I heard it's cool so having more time I'll check it out. All your advices on recording production are more than welcome

Wow! I'm listening to 'Transmigration...' now. That's ace! Got that abandonned factory feel to it. Lots of random sparks and dormant machinery. This may not be what you had in mind but it evokes this in me! Keep up the ungood work.

All your advices on recording production are more than welcome Im not familier with cubase and its workings but is there not a function called 'freeze' or somthing similar, we record the guitar parts and then 'freeze' them and it temporarily renders them freeing up memory, you can still ad your usual insert fx like compression ect after and they work as normal, however if you want to then edit or rerecord the parts you just 'unfreeze' them. I Will try and attatch my guitarig custom bank to this post for you but we are using guitar rig2 at the moment and I dont think the patches will work with GR1. EZDrummer is awsome I highly recomend it. Eventualy we will get round to putting up our settings and methods with screen shots, but nothing beats actualy hands on experience, and setting mean nothing unless you know why you are putting them in!

The vocal FX on "Ichneumon" were all done with a Boss fx unit (I can't remember the specific model but it's sat on my shelf in Newcastle so I'll be able to tell you in a couple of days), and there might've been some SBlive environmental audio thrown in; I forget. It has been five years, after all...

I haven't mentioned that I have Guitar rig 2 so it's ok. I still haven't cut through it very far so any tip would be really helpful. Mixing channels of distorted guitars I find the most difficult task if we talk about layered sound. 2 of them-ok, 3 of them-already problem. It'll take forever until I'll learn how to f**k (sorry) with surround. Cubase does have "freeze" function indeed BUT it can only be apllied to MIDI instruments as far as I discovered. I suddenly became curiuos. What software do you use?

we are currently using sonar 5 studio, soon to be upgrading to sonar 6 producer. We also use ableton live 5 as a sampler rewired in sonar. In sonar freeze can be applied to both audio and midi tracks. We pan guitars thusly (on average) Bass = center rythm 1 = hard right rythm 2 = hard left additional rythm parts usualy about half left or half right. Leads usualy go just left or right of center what ever sounds best. FX chain on guitars once recorded is compresion and then mulitband compresion to take out the extreme highs and lows bass just gets some compression and a bit of eq.

There is a problem. The most irritating one. What modes you use for guitars channels: mono, stereo, LRCS, 5.0, 5.1 or which one? I use simple stereo. I record either left or right usually. However let's say if I want to paste the same track in to both channels without re-recording the same part for other channel, sound simply overlaps and in the end I have very centered almost mono sound. As I understand it is normal thing but how I should avoid this? How should I make tha same track to sound left righ and center at once?
