I too really liked listening to those tracks. Jazzy at times though still dark. The vocals in the second track remind me of the growls in pre-Emperor 'Thou Shalt Suffer'. Hope that's taken as well as it's meant to be!

Thanks everyone for the feedback on the music. New instruments are beginning their journey to my home and my old amplifiers are in the process of being sold to fund ones more in line with the vintage sound I seek. I'm not entirely sure how to go about recording some of my other home made/found "instruments" but I'm sure it will be an interesting process. Once I've become acquainted with the new additions and have been able to obtain a decent pair of monitors I will begin recording the "demo" which will be thrown onto the internet for download upon its completion. Also the old Myspace page was hacked I've since made a new one, normally I wouldn't bother but I felt compelled to do so. The new link can be found at the top.

So should we expect messages from the old layout informing us of bitching layouts and free playstations?
have you thought about using amp modeling plugins for guitars at all, as much fun as micing a cranked amp is, pluggins are much more convenient and offer more variety.
whats your set up, we may be able to offer some advice about recording your other sounds.

Beginning next week, the recording for the "demo" will commence. Featuring the gloriously abysmal tones of a Line 6 Spider II practice amp because I cannot get away with using my half stack during the times I am home.
The Tracklisting will be: 1. Nrvngst: Procession (Intro) 2. Nervengeist: Terraphemera 3. Nyrvyngyst: Vagrant Coffins 4. Nrvngst: Victim (Outro)
2 New songs tenatively titled "Landturns" and "The Organ Looms" have been written that will not appear on the demo, due in part to differences in Timbre caused by the use of Extended Range Instrumentation and "extended techniques".

sounds cool dont discredit a practise amp just yet, i have an amp that cost me £15 but sounds great when its mic'd up and recorded. In fact I used it to record the Hesper Paynes material up to and including the 'Dreamer...' EP just take some time to mic it right, turn it up as loud as you can get it and play harder

Recording Update: In an final effort to resist the influence of the outerwise the amplifier chose to take its own life a few days ago during the recording of scratch tracks for Vagrant Coffins. As such, recording has been postponed as I seek out an amplifier to borrow until I have the money to buy a higher quality replacement . The silver lining of this week was a new instrument, an unpaired 8 String bass, which has made its way to my home.

I don't have a camera at the moment, I'll try to post up a picture or two after I get home work tomorrow. Basically the difference between a paired and unpaired 8 string bass is that a paired 8 string bass has 8 strings paired in octaves like a 12 string guitar, tuned EEAADDGG. This bass has 8 indivdual strings tuned in fourths F#BEADGCF, the neck is twice as wide as my 5 string bass to accomadate the additional strings. It's in need of a restring however since the friend I bought it from never changed the strings and the stock strings it came with are a bit too light to get a clear sound from the low F#.

wow is it a custom jobbie, ive never seen or heard of one that was not the paired version. That neck sounds monstrous, I have been lusting after an 8 string guitar for some time now.

Nah, if it were a custom I don't think he would have parted with it for $250. Its a galveston bass, they're one of those no name e-bay brands, they don't even have a website. I see them going for between $500 and $1000 new. For being made by a no name company in Korea (I believe) the craftsmanship is far beyond what I was expecting, the fretwork is solid, it holds its tuning well, and pickups are decent. Judging by the wood grain it appears to be an ash body with a set maple neck, which may explain why it weighs around 15lbs. The only issue I can see is that I'm not sure whether you can intonate the bridge , but for the price I have no problem with eventually looking into having one made that will. A picture with my 5 string for comparison: i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab195/Nyrvyngyst/001.jpgI tried to just post the picture in here but it was massive and I'm inept when it comes to resizing images. The main factor behind buying the bass was that I also have a custom 9-string guitar with fanned frets being built that should be completed soon ;D, I was originally going to get a 10 string but was afraid the neck would be too wide, now I know that wouldn't have been the case, and the desire to have one still hasn't gone away so maybe in the future I'll put in an order for one of those as well if I can scrape together the cash.

shitting hell thats a monster! Its a really nice looking bass, is the other one an ibanez BTB? Ive played a fair few non brands that have been equall to guitars 3 times the price but its always a risk unless you get to test it first. is that a paired 9 string like the guy in high on fire uses? As an extended scale fanatic i salute and envy you.

The other bass is an Ibanez Srx595, its a shame they discontinued them as they're a really nice playing and sounding bass, although Ibanez seem to have dropped the ball on the transparent grey finish as its much more of a green. The missing volume knob kills me considering I've owned it for less than a year, but I've noticed a tendency for that to happen with Ibanez basses. The 9 string guitar will be an unpaired 9 string. Im planning on tuning it either F#BEADGBEA (Standard) or EBEADGBEA (Drop-E...madness). I don't see myself deviating much from those tunings though as if I were to tune every string a full step down my lowest 4 strings would be the same pitches as a standard 4 string bass. I have a couple cheap guitars that satisfy my love for non-standard tunings including an acoustic tuned in microtones and an electric tuned in new "standard tuning" (CGDAEG). Other good news is that my friend agreed to let me borrow his practice amp to record, so I can get back to the demo much sooner than I'd originally thought.
