Forgive me poking my head in here unannounced, but all this talk of unpaired 8 string intruments made me search for some pictures of said instruments which indeed seem to have super wide necks. I couldn't play one if i wanted i don't think, as my fingers couldnt get to the top strings, but they are kind of cool looking. But your wish for a 10 string guitar made me wonder why you wouldn't just get a double neck guitar (4 string bass, 6 string guitar = 10 strings) and then you wouldn't need super long fingers to get to all the strings since the necks would be normal width. I also got to wondering where the string madness would stop ;D.

A double neck consisting of a Guitar and Bass would have a range from E2 to E5 on the open strings , the Nine string guitar I have ordered Will have a Range from F#2 to A5 on the open strings, so a nearly equivalent range of notes in the lower end and an even greater range of higher notes. A 10 string would have a range from C#2 to A5 on the open strings so it would have a greater range in both directions. It's that extended range of notes that I am after, and it would be much more useable confined to one neck as opposed to two seperate necks. As for where the string madness ends, I'm not sure, Gary Goodman has a 12-string bass with equivalent range to that of a piano and theres another guy who built an 42-fret 11 String guitar where the highest frets actually exceed the range of a piano.

I am here to learn. Given i don't play, i trust the musicians. It just seemed that as the neck got wider and wider (and i'm assuming longer and longer as more bass strings are added) that it would be harder to play. Thank you for the info on tunings and why it is better. I'm pretty sure i would never be able to play something like that given my finger size. If i take up a stringed instrument, i would probably go in the other direction of string madness and get a shamisen. Hope your 9 string arrives soon and have fun playing it!

UPDATE of Dooooom: The myspace got deleted, but I suppose that's no real loss as I've changed the project name again anyway www.myspace.com/theinterlopersunken . I've decided to not even bother with releasing albums, demos, etc. I will instead simply post the songs as they are completed, as much as i would like to make a proper album my ideas aren't coherent enough from song to song. I am working on artwork for the project anyway, but as usual I am failing miserably.

Why did it get deleted or did you do it? thats not really a bad thing, its just the way that music has been produced for the past 50 odd years because of limitations in the capacity of physical media so there is no reason to stick to it. Halo of the sun are doing a similar thing with the 'artifacts and ashes' collection. The way digital media works there is no reason not to have a potentially infinate collection of works that cover the full spectrum that you feel the project covers.

I didn't delete it myself but I'm not entirely sure what happened to the page, I tried to sign in and it said it wasn't available, I've never had a page deleted before so I dont know what the standard procedure is when it happens, I'd always assumed the owner of the page would get an e-mail informing them it had been deleted, but it's certainly no big deal. I also noticed my i.p. address at work has been banned from the forum. A new pre-production clip of another song has been uploaded, my vocals are a bit shaky but that will be remedied with the final recording. Lyrics have been thrown into in a blogpost, I have more lyrics written than music for this project and that may work in my advantage as I can structure the songs with the lyrics in mind (although I probably wont). Equipment related: Much is going on on the instrumental front lately. My 9-string guitar should be shipping sometime next week according to the builder, I am very much looking forward to seeing my new instrument for the first time ;D. I'm selling my 8-string bass to a friend since I've been feeling the call of fretless instrumentation, the plan at the moment is to buy a 6 string fretless bass and tune it F#BEADG. I am also in the process of modifying my old flying V into a fretless guitar. I am also paying another friend to build me a waterphone since he has welding skills, so expect to hear the uneartly euphony of that instrument soon as well.

Enjoying the stuff you have up on MySpace. It'll be interesting to hear the waterphone once it's done, I can only imagine what madness it'll add to your already twisted sound

All sounding extremely cool, have you abandoned the classic album type collection completely?

(I figured out how to change my name. ) Yes, I have no intention of releasing anything resembling the standard album in the future with this project, I'm enjoying not being bound to the coherency expected in an album. Artwork will be created for the project however since I consider visuals to be an important aspect of the project, although the visuals may not always tie in with songs. The main aim of the project is similar to The Axis in that it seeks to express another reality/timeline through various means, the difference being the overall setting. I've considered live performances however, and have decided that if I can create an visual aspect to the perfomance that would fit the vision in my head I would perform a show or 2, however that is simply an idea for now as there are no musicians in my area with the motivation neccessary. Artwork will be created for the project as well since I consider visuals to be an important aspect of the project, although the visuals may not always tie in with songs. The main aim of the project is similar to The Axis in that it seeks to express another reality/timeline through various means, the difference being the overall setting. On a side note, The album I had written for my first bamd will have a standard album style release when the material is recorded since that was the original plan. It will die soon after since I have no further inspiration for it and the material written has been complete since before January of 2009.
