A couple of questions for anyone who knows to help me with:
The sample voice 'telling a story' at the end of "Born under the knife...", can anyone give a transcript of it as I can't hear some parts? Come to think of it, the whole of "Forms on the other side..." would be great too! Also, any of the lyrics from the new record available anywhere? Guitar tabs?
One last thing (I'm pushing my luck as it is!) to the band, how do you guys set about creating the amazing artwork? It really is an essential part of the listening experience!
Thanks in advance for any help with these!

hiya i asked Brooke and this is what he said: 'the thing at the end of 'born under the knife...' is taken from the begining of the anime film 'Urotsukidoji: legend of the over fiend' but i can remember what it says exactly something about humans being arogant and not knowing about hiden worlds within worlds ect. I cant remeber ''forms'' and dont have it transcribed anywhere but if you listen with a good pair of head phones it shouldnt be too hard to hear.
The lyrics for the latest album will not be available anywhere as with the concept we wanted to leave it open for interpretation to the listener, the album/music/lyrics mean different things to each band member, besides its more interesting for people to make up thier own versions of events, if we revealed all it would probobly spoil the mystery. Guitar tabs are Mikes field, i know he would be tabbing some out for teaching purposes when we get a second guitarist for live sets but i dont forsee them being publicly available, again have a go at working stuff out your self its more fun! I will give you a head start, the guitars on the first album are tuned to B and are tuned to D on the E.P. and latest album, there are generaly 4 different rythm guitar parts going on at once in the heavy parts often playing different things, also Mike has a tendancy to to use some pretty odd finger breaking disonnent jazz chords a lot.
The art gets made as we go along it kind feeds of the music and visa verse each song tends to have its own image, they are put together mainly by Mike using photo montage and manipulation I contribute in a more directorial (ie pestering!) way suggesting tweaks and placments that kind of thing
hope that helps!'

I'll add a bit:
If it's the other sample at the end of "Born under the knife..." that you mean, it's from the tape version of the short story "Crouch End" by Stephen King, and "Forms..." is like an audio collage from the same story, though necessarily abridged in lots of places to keep within legal restraints. If you want to read it, it's in "Nightmares and Dreamscapes". Don't be fooled into thinking we're big King fans though, we just like that story.
The basic urban decay photos are found in free online galleries and then extensively warped, blended together, tweaked to the point where they are new environments created out of a large set of source elements, then given our special sepia wash.
And if you were going to say "how will you replicate those guitars live if there are four counterpointing parts going on at anyone time?", the answer is just picking out the key parts of each section from all the guitar lines, so that the live guitars will be the "edited highlights".

Wow! You guys are legends!! I was expecting the sort of half-arsed answer most bands would give. It's funny, after posting the question, I found the base picture for the 'spiral starecase' on the 'Deleted...' CD on a website so no worries COBBA there! Thanks for the other info, I'll tune me guitar down and look a few things up. The lyrics point is fare dinkum, it's scarier just making out some of the words. I'm not Australian by the way.
Many thanks!

See you on tour!

Axis has very "rusty" sound and it's quite difficult to decypher guitar parts. But every time I listen to it it gets more clear to me. Maybe one day(: Just for sake of my hobby... Usage of dissonant chords is one of the main reason attracting me to Axis music. It sounds damn ear-hostile and absolutely alien. I personally find very nasty and nice discordance here.

rusty sound, yeah thats a good description! Alot of the dissonent chords come from jazz music, some of the stranger ones star as one shape then quickly slide up into another shape but when played it sounds like one chord. Ive seen Axis tabs and they look as chaotic and they sound. Maybe one day if there is demand and the guys can be bothered with the transcription we will get some tabs up on the site...this gives me an idea.

Going back to the album artwork, you'll probably think me mad but on close inspection, there seems to be many 'not obvious' faces I can make out blending with the shadows in the background of both the Deleted Scenes.. art and The Ichneumon Method (I've not found any on Physical Illucinations..). They all seem quite sinister so I'm wondering if they have been purposefully put there, or, far more likely, it's my imagination doing wonderful things. In case you don't see what I mean, here are the 'faces' I've found:
1- Skull-like face to the bottom left of the 'Axis of Perdition' logo (Ichneumon). 2- To the left of the distorted windows on the 'Let Satan cling feebly to God...' page (Ichneumon) 3- On the recording credits (back) page of the ...Ichneumon... booklet- Look to the right of the pentagram graffiti out of the windows, there seem to be 2 bald figures. 4- In the 'Deleted Scenes...' artwork, between the 2 mannequins on stands at breast level, looks like 2 eyes and a nose in the shadows.
I think it's me letting my imagination wander to be honest. If not, are there any others people have noticed? And I wonder, who is the character behind the CD in 'Deleted Scenes...' looking at me from the end of the corridor? A patient? He doesn't look fragile enough to me.
Apologies for length.

Ha! Fair enough. It's better that it remains ambiguous. Just wanted to share my observations.

Funny that you should mention finding hidden aspects to the artwork on "Ichneumon" and "Deleted Scenes" and yet not "Physical"? Do you think if we were going to insert hidden things in the artwork, we'd stop at faces?
Answers on a postcard and slipped under the door of the nearest derelict building.

You, sir, are a tease in a rather demented way. I've noticed the 'headless' chap in the doctors coat but he seems too 'obvious'.

I've just scrutinised the artwork more closely. The only thing I wouldn't mind knowing is whether or not I can see a beastie from SH2 in the booklet. I think I can. On the cover, I've noticed a few things I'm not entirely sure about and on the third page, I've just noticed the character 'standing at the train station at 2am'. I guess. Anyway, hidden sinister things in future artwork would be quite creepy so I'm all for it!

We didn't insert an SH2 monster. If you see one there, though, it's your problem...
