Just read some news that Bass Communion's Ghost On Magnetic Tape, an album not too disimilar in some ways to Deleted Scenes, will be mixed in 5.1. How cool/scary would it be to have Deleted Scenes... in a 5.1 mix? I think it would add a whole new dimension to the album that would bring out a lot of the periferal sounds and effects to create a very surreal listening experience.

Hey, thanks for drawing my attention to this band, Hamasphee! I looked up a couple of reviews and they sound promising. I'll probably wait for the 5.1 version to appear though

Glad to be of service. Do note that BC is not in anyway metal, but an ambient project. Still, GOMT should appeal to a lot of fans of TAOP as that album, and probably Loss as well (also on the DVDA) are very creepy and dark; I listened to both alone in complete darkness, and was more spooked by GOMT.

Funny you should mention this as just after the masters for Deleted where sent off they got a whole new slew of equipment including some surround mixing gear they have been experimenting with this and as you can imagine the results where pretty nasty.

It's cool. I'm into wierd electronic music and hard scary German trance as well as extreme metal (my main 'scene'). I'm very open to new stuff especially if it makes one shiver with fear, hence The Axis. The new equipment sounds promising, I already am looking forward to new material as well as the Mine[Thorn] album (the demo track is great by the way).

Great recommendation, Hemasphee! I have very much 'enjoyed' GOMT (I couldn't be arsed to wait for the re-release). If you're going to the London TAOP gig, we should meet up to discuss how treatment is progressing.

Tis the perfect compliment to the treatments here I find. Definitely intend on attend the London gig, so a bit of 'liquidised therapy' with a fellow patient would not be unpleasent

Good stuff. I've just received the Silent Hill 2 Akira Yamaoka soundtrack album which is quite atmospheric. I had to get it on import from the US and because it cost me over £18, I had to pay an extra £3-80 customs charge and then £4 Royal Mail handling fee!!! For a CD!!! I'm sure the Hospital's Internal post would not be so slack!

Boo fuckin' hoo! Mine cost me £35. No joke.
The best thing to do is to get the "Lost Memories" DVD, which not only has the first three soundtracks in full but plays nifty slide shows as you listen to them. Incidentally, I hope you played the game first.

Jeez... that'd be over $60 here in the states.. I've had the Silent Hill OSTs for a little while now (I'd say I like all but the majority of #4) ... but i've never heard a lick of this "Lost Memories" DVD... where might I be able to get my paws on this?

I did play the game first and I have the third game although I'm not starting that until I finish the 2nd (which will take ages as I barely get the chance). Thanks for pointing out the DVD, will investigate further after payday!

Having now had plenty of time to fully absorb GOMT by Bass Communion, I can heartily recommend it to all followers of scary ambient music. The 2 discs are both haunting with the 'Andrew Lyles reconstruction' perhaps slightly more simple and dark, hard to say. If you like a fairly 'mellow' album punctuated by wierd ghostly noises, this is for you. Cheers Hemasphee! Any other recommendations?

All of the Bass Communion stuff is worth checking out. The best album other than GOMT is Continuum, but unfortunately that was linited to 1000 copies and has sold out, but if you can track down a copy than it's definately worth it. All the CDs currently available you can get at www.swhq.co.uk, but I would be wary of BC v Muslimgauze; I love it, but it's got loads of beats (house type stuff), courtesy of Muslimgauze. The Bass Communion/Colin Potter/Jonathan Coleclough is minimalistic drone, and the increadible Epidural is 74 minutes long! Not fir the faint-hearted (shouldn't be many of those here)! I'm only new to the genre, so I don't know much more beyond that and early Tangerine Dream (Rubyicon is a personal fave); and the cheeky recommendation is The 3rd Fire, my own stuff (haha - I'll get my coat).
