Lately I've been having an issue that none of the samples I record are of any decent quality, at best they sound tinny and lifeless. Does anyone have any tips that might help fix this situation? I know alot of it will be simple trial and error, but any help would be appreciated.

how are you currently recording, what gear and signal chain are you using?

Right now all I have is an sm57, I've heard that dynamic mics aren't the greatest for samples to begin with and i think thats a part of the issue, the signal chain is Sm57-> usb-to-xlr adapter-> computer. I do not yet own a mixer or anything similar.

Get your hands on a cheap condenser!... but then of course you will need phantom power...
I guess it depends on what your sampling? I have done some sampling with a 57, although not the best thing to use, can get some nice results in a controlled environment and through tweaking with EQ. However I don't think your going to see anything amazing until your run it through some kind of pre/mixer/DI/ anything better than your computer sound card!.
Invest in a Zoom H4. these portable recorders are fantastic for sampling. especially for location stuff! They really capture the natural surroundings i.e a concrete stairwell and its natural reverb.
