My turn to extol the wonders of my own personal forms of treatment ;D The band's called The 3rd Fire (hence the subject title) and it's just me, playing ambient hypnotic electronica. Influences include Bass Communion, Tangerine Dream and Sunn O))), with lots of other bands creeping in, including TAOP (there's a section on the site with my current playlist to give a rough idea of what is currently attacking my brain). The music varies widely from very heavy Sunn O)))-esque drones to minimalistic, atmospheric pieces. There are a couple of tracks to download from the site, and the first demo 'The First Spark' was released a little while ago and is still available. Once that has sold out, a second one is almost ready. The website is www.the3rdfire.pwp.blueyonder.co.ukEdit: I now also have a Myspace page up and running at www.myspace.com/the3rdfire and some friends would be nice the two mp3s from my site are also there for steaming. Congratulations if you have managed to read all the way to the end here, I thank you. Dominic

OK, posted two more tracks up at www.myspace.com/the3rdfire for those interested, including my heaviest composition yet, Emptiness: To Drain A Life Of Sorrow. Both tracks are very different to the two already up there, so enjoy! Dom

sounding erm. good I think, Im not an expert on that kind of ambient (or any) so Im not sure how valid my opinion is realy. Brooke said you should try using an amp sim for your guitar then doubling them up with some long decay reverb, it will help you get a bigger thicher sound, but if you have it sounding as you want then to ignore him

Thanks for that, I'm always looking for ideas/suggestions as I'm a bit of a novice. When I get my amped fixed I'll give it a go - may even be able to use a proper studio next time, as there's one at my brother's college. Up until now it's been from my amp headphone socket into my laptop mic in, so I can't even hear it as I record!

Sorry Hammasphee, it's not really a genre I've ever got on with but keep it up, ignore heretics like me!

Ok, any help here in how to get the long decay reverb would help please. I've got something close, I think, but it doesn't really decay. I'm using a Boss GT-6, but I can't seem to find anything to do with decay. I've been playing around with the reverb and chorus to give it a thicker sound.

you may need to get a dedicated reverb pedal for that specialist revenrb sound but try combining the reverb with a delay. some guitar distortions will also sustain longer then others and that will increas the over all decay of sound, in my pedal to get a long decay 'verb you set the pre decay and the decay high and the dampening realy low, i use a Digitech gnx3
