They are back!!! These are excellent news and new material sound very interesting. Sounds like it will be more melodic and not that bitterly discording (in a good sense of course). Their Obscura album one of the most challenging listening experience to this day.

Gorguts and Portal will be playing a show a few hours away from me in may, the fact that I cannot get that time off from work is very disappointing. I highly suggest you do not miss portal... Their live rituals are like no other!

I highly suggest you do not miss portal... Their live rituals are like no other! Salt in the wound, Sir. If there were any way I were able to attend I would do so without hesitation. i just listened to obscura by gorguts and it hurt my head Definitely give it repeated listens. The underlying structures will begin to reveal themselves with each listen. As for reccomendations, Abigors newest release actually has some very wrong sounding sections within it. Part II in particular.

New Negura Bunget is excellent. Though it is not up to the mighty 'OM'! It would've been nice if the new members didn't try to imitate the old members' song writing style so much but maybe that's just me. You can almost imagine the 1st lead guitar from track 2 of 'OM' over the bit the guitars kick in with on the new album. Nevertheless, it is better than most things I'll hear this year, I'm sure.

Access to Arasaka has been playing alot on my end recently. Really excellent ambient/idm (hate that term) with a very nice cyberpunk flavour. Extra awesome since most of his stuff is free from his website. Vellocet

Congrats with this discovery. Everything this guy creates is awesome really. I assume you already have his full length Oppidan? His new work ==Null is very good as well. I wonder why I did not paste it here among recommendations earlier. It is magnificent project and one of the best of it's kind.

And what about PORTAL from Australia (profound lore records) ? As for me, it is one of the most innovative Death Metal band at the moment. For those who doesn't know them, I would say they sound a bite like Stravinsky's "Rite Of Spring" with distorted guitars and a voice without mouse speaking abstract horror words... You really should watch that live performance : www.youtube.com/watch?v=emrBZZtGFgIIt really give you the mood, and yes, the vocalist has a clock instead of his head. I don't like so much how the guitars sound in the albums, I prefer it as it is in this video, but it's still excellent too me.

Portal and their related bands such as Impetuous Ritual, Invocation, Stargazer etc. are very good, although im not sure I would compare their music to Stravinsky.

I know, I have tendency to exaggerate, but some elements such as rhythmic and "modified" jazz chords reminded me the Rite.
